‘Inflorescence’ celebrates my transition into Silversmithing, love of making and appreciation of good gin!

I designed this Gin Chalice for the ‘Precious Little Gems’ commission, awarded by Sheffield Assay Office. The piece is made from Sterling Silver, 18ct yellow Gold and Glass. Once again using the details of the Peak District that I love so much, as inspiration for the distinctive style of this piece. I translate the fluidity and presence of nature into intricate decorative details within the silverware. Working with glass blower Daniel Jackson I was able to incorporate bespoke blown glass into the design of the drinking vessel.

It was so exciting to have the opportunity to design and create a piece of contemporary silverware for the Sheffield Assay Office. I was able to develop and learn new making skills throughout the creation of this piece. The Precious Little Gems commission has allowed me to tap into the fantastic network of skilled makers and tradespeople across Sheffield, building important relationships with these people, which will help me to further develop my ideas into a new body of work. I really feel this opportunity has inspired me to be more creative with my designs, allowed me to see what is possible in terms of the making processes involved and given me confidence within my own skills.

The Gin Chalice is designed to be used and enjoyed. The glass element is big enough to hold a double gin topped with tonic, plenty of refreshing ice and a beautiful garnish. It can be taken apart into four separate pieces for ease of cleaning between use, as the silver will need to be treated differently to the glass.

Currently ‘Inflorescence’ is made to order with an approximate lead time of 8-10 weeks. I would be happy to consider other items in this style to suit specific occasions and budgets. Other designs might include Martini Glasses, Champagne Saucers, Whisky Tumblers etc.
